This is a blog about a horse named Lucky Kachina Dancer - an American Paint Horse - who was two days away from slaughter, and the girl who took a chance on her.
Along with her other horse - a Quarter Horse gelding named Maverick - The Girl and Kachina live in Oakland, California -- not horse country by any means. Though it is one of the most inhospitable cities for horses, they manage to thrive with the help of the girl's hard work, her job as a professional dog trainer, the help of a few great friends, and a bit of luck.
The Girl spends her weekdays training dogs at a local dog daycare, and her weekends apprenticing with a renowned cow horse breeder and trainer. Together, Kachina and her girl will chase their dreams of competing in team-penning, cutting, and wherever else their road takes them.
This blog was created to track their progress, their growing relationship, and the obstacles they'll face together; to prove that even a horse that was unwanted, unloved and intended for slaughter can, in fact, be a diamond in the rough.
